Vista Grande Students Compete in School-Wide Spelling Bee
“stratosphere…s-t-r-a-t-o-s-p-h-e-r-e…stratosphere” sighed Nicholas Sin as he spelled the final winning word in Vista Grande’s 3rd Annual Spelling Bee held at Oaks Middle School. On January 19th, 26 Vista Grande Elementary School students, grades 2-6, competed in the Spelling Bee. Arroyo Recognizes Math Wizards
At Arroyo Elementary School, teachers Ms. DeBellis and Ms. Wiekamp honored six of their Math Wizard students with a special lunch. The brilliant bunch demonstrated their knowledge of Math by passing their quizzes at the end of each lesson. At the end of the unit, the students were picked in a raffle to have lunch with their dedicated teachers. Read more...
Wiltsey’s Holiday Concert (featuring Del Norte and Mariposa)
Right before the winter break, the music students at Ray Wiltsey Middle School were busy putting together their final holiday show, and quite a production it was!! The idea was to have a concert where everyone was a performer where nobody was left as just an audience member. Uper-grade students from Del Norte and Mariposa came over to Wiltsey carrying their musical instruments, song flutes, and lyrics to participate in a massive musical production. Read more...

OMSD Students and their Families Skate for Fitness
On the night of December 15th students from the schools of Ramona, Vista Grande, Howard, Arroyo and Vineyard participated in the 2nd Annual Family Fitness Skate Night at Skate Express in Chino. This fun-filled event organized by the PE team servicing those sites (Mr. Rothwell, Mrs. Phillips, Mr Richard, Mrs. Gundlach, and Ms. Jennifer) brought together students and their families for a night of physical activity outside of the normal P.E. setting. Science Month at Wiltsey Middle School
On December 5, Wiltsey families participated in Space Science Night. They created a planisphere, built and launched rockets, weighed themselves on other planets, and calculated how many days it would take to travel to the planets on the Space Shuttle while sampling astronaut food!
Continuing in the Science Month tradition, Wiltsey’s Science Fair was also in December with over 450 science project entries. Read more...

Dogs and cats work together to make great things happen for students!
Richard E. Haynes Elementary School (Huskies) and Ontario High School (Jaguars) have joined in partnership to collaborate on behalf of children at the elementary and secondary levels! Ontario High School Drama Director, Mr. Jeremy Hansen, invited Haynes students to audition for, and act in, the fall performance of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was presented in October, 2011. Euclid Families Prepare for the Holidays
On the evening of December 1st, Euclid Elementary celebrated the beginning of the holiday season by hosting students and parents for their annual Holiday Craft Night. Parents and students were welcomed by Euclid principal, Rhonda Cleeland, then walked through the many open classrooms, where they completed several holiday themed crafts, such as candy cane reindeer and angel ornaments. Del Norte Students Participate in Local 5K Event
On December 10, 2011, students from Del Norte’s Think Together program along with other OMSD students participated at the City of Ontario’s 5K run/walk at Citizens Business Bank Arena. It was a sunny cold morning, but the excited participants from the local fire station #1, Mayor Pro Tem Debra Dorst-Porada, and the Ontario Police Department supported our students and Think Together participants. The Simple Gifts Of Christmas
On Saturday, December 3, 2011, several of OMSD’s instrumentalists discovered the simple gift of giving music. Parents, friends, relatives, and shoppers clapped, smiled, sang and danced to the sounds of our talented young musicians and performers. The Wiltsey Wildcat Band under Mr. Evan Berry’s baton, entertained with a script that took audience members around the world and back with holiday selections. Read more...
A Science Holiday for Vineyard Students
Our first Magnet Academy of the year occurred on November 11th, the Veteran’s Day Holiday. While other students across the district were taking a day off of school, over 500 Vineyard K-8th grade students took scientific excursions to various area locations. Each field trip was geared towards the specific science content standards that students are currently studying in their classes. Read more...

Panthers Like to Move It, Move It
As a newly redefined VAPA school, Vernon was looking for a unique way to make a statement about our goal of raising student achievement. Our dance students took the challenge and created an all school dance, which was then taught by our dance teacher, Lauren Venegas with the help of our PE department.
