Menus & Meal Service

The menus are written by a Registered Dietitian to ensure compliance with USDA standards. Other equally important considerations in menu planning include: student acceptability, availability, cost, color & variety. Management and production staff review the menus. Feedback from the school sites and student taste tests are used to evaluate the menus. Menus for elementary students are published monthly and sent to the schools for distribution to students. Additionally, the elementary menu is published on the District website.

Each school day approximately 15,700 lunches and 5012 breakfast meals are served to students. Elementary students are offered a nutritious breakfast and lunch. Students may also purchase juice or milk. Middle schools do not have a set published menu as Food & Nutrition Services adapts the menu items to the student preferences at each site. Middle school students have a wide variety of foods available through the traditional lunch line.

An automated point of service system is in use at every school location. Students enter a personal identification number to account for their meal. Food & Nutrition Services encourages parents to pre-pay for student meals. Student accounts are set up in the cafeteria, please see your cafeteria staff for details. Parents are also encouraged to check their student account balances to ensure funds are available. When a student’s account is low, a red reminder notice will be given to the student.

In addition to meals served in the cafeteria, sack lunches are available upon request for field trips. barbeques and pizza parties are also available for special school events. The barbeques and pizza parties are requested by school site administrators.
