H1N1 Flu Information
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We realize how concerned you are for the health of your child or children during this current situation of Novel H1N1 Flu (formerly Swine Flu). Our district has taken several steps and will in the near future take additional action to help prevent the spread of flu. All classrooms have soap and water or sanitization hand wash. Students will wash hands prior to lunch. Classroom instruction on cleanliness will be taught during the school year. Hand sanitizing dispensers will be placed over the next several weeks at the front offices of schools and other key locations on school campuses.
Here are some helpful tips on what your child can do to avoid getting Novel H1N1 Flu:
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds (long enough for children to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice). Be sure to set a good example by doing this yourself.
- When coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth with a tissue. (If a tissue is used, throw the tissue away immediately).
- Be sure to set a good example by doing this yourself.
- Stay at least six feet away from people who are sick.
- Stay home from school if sick (no fever for 24 hours), and stay away from sick people until they are better.
It is also recommended that your child or children receive annual seasonal flu vaccines. In other words, prevention is the best medicine. The Ontario-Montclair School District web site will have resources and information on Novel H1N1 Flu. We want all of our students to have a safe and healthy year
