Promise Scholars Signing Ceremony
On October 21, OMSD hosted a signing ceremony that formally accepted a pledge from our Promise Partners to ensure a place in college for all OMSD students. Our wonderful Promise Partners include: Chaffey Joint Union High School District, Chaffey College, and California State University, San Bernardino. We will host another signing ceremony that will include California State University, Bakersfield.
This is such an exciting time for the future of our community. Thanks to this pledge, all OMSD students who complete preparatory requirements will be provided access and admission to a partner college.
The Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation has been created and is building partnerships with local organizations and business, as well as community members to help provide scholarships.
This is truly a dream come true for me as a superintendent. I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all Promise Partners for helping OMSD provide world-class educational opportunities for the young people and families of our community.

Schools are Prepared and Safe
All OMSD schools and offices participated in The Great California ShakeOut on October 20, 2011.
The Great California ShakeOut was a day of special events featuring the largest earthquake drill ever. It was organized to inspire Californians to get ready for big earthquakes and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes.
Our students practiced the duck, cover, and hold drill. Teachers also discussed safety and what do to in the event of an earthquake. I encourage you to discuss the events of the drill with your children.
Please know that the district is prepared in the event of an earthquake. Take the time to prepare at home as well. What we do now, before a big earthquake, will determine what our lives will be like afterwards.

Scientific Thinkers in OMSD!
Teachers and students throughout the district are working in partnership with UC Riverside, the Discovery Science Center, NASCAR, the Alliance for Education, JPL and many others to foster scientific thinking and learning in OMSD. The science activities are sponsored through our highly acclaimed California Mathematics and Science Partnership (CaMSP) project and include a two week Science Summer Academy for both teachers and students, Super Saturdays for students and their families, science seminars for teachers and exciting science field study trips for students.
Through the CaMSP project, students and teachers incorporate scientific theory and problem based learning strategies to strengthen and broaden their science knowledge. They then apply the skills learned to investigate complex real world scientific issues. Students love learning science in OMSD! Watch for more information about upcoming Super Saturday events. You won't want to miss them!

Jumping for a World Record
Over 5,440 OMSD students and staff at nine different school sites participated in an effort to set the Guinness World Record for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period. To break the record, more than 20,000 people worldwide needed to complete one minute of jumping jacks.
This was a great way to bring awareness of world events, as well as physical fitness to our students. The event kicked off on October 11, 2011 with First Lady Michelle Obama and 450 Washington D.C. students performing jumping jacks on the White House lawn.
I'm proud so say that OMSD students and staff are record-setters!

Thank You IEUW and ADP
Through our long standing partnership with the Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) many benefits have been provided to our students, families and communities. They have again come through by providing a school beautification project at Mission Elementary School.
IEUW partnered with Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) to revitalize Mission Elementary School for Make A Difference Day. Over 400 volunteers helped with painting murals, planting gardens, cleaning, and performing a variety of other fun projects that will positively change the school environment.
On October 24, students were treated to a mural unveiling! Thank you IEUW and ADP for everything you do and continue to do for our community.

Ceremonia de firmas de promesa para estudiantes
El 21 de octubre, OMSD patrocinó una ceremonia de firmas que aceptó formalmente una promesa de nuestros Socios de promesa para asegurar un lugar en el college para todos los estudiantes de OMSD. Nuestros fabulosos Socios de promesa incluyen: Chaffey Joint Union High School District, Chaffey College, y California State University, San Bernardino. Patrocinaremos otra ceremonia de firmas que incluirá California State University, Bakersfield.
Esta es una etapa muy emocionante para el futuro de nuestra comunidad. Gracias a esta promesa, todos los estudiantes de OMSD quienes completen requisitos preparatorios tendrán acceso y admisión a un college socio.
La fundación de escuelas del Distrito Escolar de Ontario-Montclair ha sido creada y está formando alianzas con organizaciones locales y comerciantes, así como también con miembros de la comunidad para proveer becas.
Esto es verdaderamente un sueño que se ha convertido en realidad para mí como superintendente. Yo quiero agradecer sinceramente a todos los Socios de promesa por ayudar a que OMSD provea oportunidades de educativas de clase mundial para los jóvenes y familias de nuestra comunidad.

Las escuelas están preparadas y seguras
Todas las escuelas y oficinas de OMSD participaron en el simulacro en caso de terremotos llamado The Great California ShakeOut el 20 de octubre de 2011.
El día del Great California ShakeOut fue un día de eventos especiales con el más grande simulacro en caso de terremoto que nunca. Fue organizado para inspirar a los californianos para que se preparen para terremotos grandes y para evitar que los desastres se conviertan en catástrofes.
Nuestros estudiantes practicaron la rutina de agáchate, cúbrete y agárrate. Los maestros también hablaron sobre la seguridad y lo que pueden hacer en caso de un terremoto. Yo recomiendo que hablen sobre los eventos del simulacro con sus hijos.
Por favor sepan que el distrito está preparado en caso de un terremoto. Tomen tiempo para prepararse en casa, también. Lo que hagamos ahora, antes de un gran terremoto, determinará lo que nuestras vidas serán después.

Pensamiento científico en OMSD!
Los maestros y estudiantes de todo el distrito están trabajando conjuntamente con UC Riverside, el Discovery Science Center, NASCAR, la Alianza para la Educación, JPL y muchos otros para fomentar el pensamiento científico y aprendizaje en OMSD. Las actividades de ciencias son patrocinadas mediante nuestra asociación con el aclamado proyecto de Matemáticas y Ciencias de California (CaMSP) e incluye una Academia de ciencias durante el verano para estudiantes y maestros, y Súper sábados para estudiantes y sus familias, seminarios de ciencias para maestros y emocionantes paseos escolares de ciencias para estudiantes.
Por medio del proyecto CaMSP, los estudiantes y maestros incorporan teoría científica y estrategias de aprendizaje para fortalecer y expandir su conocimiento sobre la ciencia. Después, ellos emplean las habilidades que aprendieron para investigar asuntos complejos reales del mundo científico. ¡A los estudiantes les encanta aprender ciencias en OMSD! Estén atentos de recibir más información sobre próximos eventos de Súper sábado. ¡No pueden perdérselos!

Saltando para una marca mundial
Más de 5,440 estudiantes y empleados de OMSD en nueve diferentes escuelas participaron en un esfuerzo por establecer una marca mundial Guinness de personas que saltaron en un período de 24 horas. Para romper esta marca, más de 20,000 personas de todo el mundo tienen que completar un minuto dando saltos.
Esta es una gran manera de dar a conocer eventos mundiales, así como también buena condición física a nuestros estudiantes. El evento empezó el 11 de octubre de 2011 con la Primera dama de la nación Sra. Michelle Obama y 450 estudiantes de Washington D.C. quienes estuvieron saltando en el césped de la Casa Blanca.
¡Estoy tan orgulloso de decir que los estudiantes y empleados de OMSD han impuesto una marca mundial!

Gracias IEUW y ADP
Mediante nuestra larga trayectoria de asociación con la Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) muchos beneficios han sido proporcionados a nuestros estudiantes, familias y comunidades. Ellos nuevamente hacen patente su generosidad con una obra de embellecimiento para la Escuela primaria Mission.
IEUW se asoció con la compañía Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) para revivificar la Escuela Primaria Mission para el Día de hacer la diferencia.
