Good News for OMSD’s English Learners
District California English Language Development Test (CELDT) data has arrived! The Ontario-Montclair School District (OMSD) is thrilled to announce that over 10 percent of our English Learner students have qualified for reclassification as English proficient. This is the highest rate of reclassification ever obtained in OMSD. With nearly one-half of OMSD students classified as English Learners, the goal is for students to obtain “reclassified status” as early as possible.
In order to be “Reclassified” as Fluent English Proficient students must meet several criteria. The criteria for reclassification include scoring Basic or above on the English Language Arts section of STAR. Students must also score at least Early Advanced in all four domains of the CELDT and Early Advanced on the overall CELDT score.
This is a tremendous accomplishment for our English Learner students and each student is to be commended for meeting this rigorous criteria. Our district will provide each newly reclassified student with a special certificate honoring their achievement. The graph below displays the improvement of OMSD’s reclassification rate. This improvement is a testament to the focused effort of students, teachers, and staff at OMSD school sites.
