Think Together Coastal Cleanup

THINK Together Students Participate in the Eco Adventure of the Year! California Coastal Cleanup Day 2011

On Saturday, September 17, 2011 California’s beaches, rivers, lakes, and other waterways were visited by over 80,000 people as part of California’s Coastal Cleanup Day, the largest volunteer event in California.   The Ontario-Montclair School District sent over 200 THINK Together students to Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve from the following sites to participate:

Bon View
Central
Corona
Del Norte
Euclid
Haynes
Mariposa
Sultana

Students took a proactive part in helping make California not only debris free, but gained a new respect for our ocean environment.  It included an incredible view of dolphins swimming near the shoreline.  All participants enjoyed taking in the scenery as well as  bird watching.  Students learned the importance of removing trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways.  They saw firsthand what marine debris can cause and learned how to prevent it.    Students enjoyed becoming a part of the community support to improve our natural resources, while having fun!  They all came together to accomplish something vital and worthy on behalf of our environment.

"It was so much fun, and I saw the dolphins too!"- TT 2nd Grade Student

"The beach was a great adventure for the kids, and it taught them a lot about the environment, some of my group had never seen the beach, so they enjoyed it very much."-Parent Chaperone of 4th Grade TT Student

"I miss elementary school, they get the best trips,  I should see what they have at Oaks and join."- 8th Grade Student

"The dolphins were so cool, they came to see us clean up the beach."-  TT 3rd Grade Student

The event officially kicks off a unique collaboration between OMSD ‘s STEM department and THINK Together called “ Jump Starting STEM in Out-of-School Time in CA.”    THINK Together will be implementing weekly hands-on science activities from “Project WET.”
