Lincoln Elementary Upper Grade Students Perform a Service
Students from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade volunteered their recess time to commemorate Dr Seuss's birthday by reading his books to primary special and general education students. The event took place over 4 days during morning and lunch time upper grade recesses. The event was organized by Alice Mungia, the RSP teacher at Lincoln Elementary. Students were coached on how to read aloud and ignore distractions. They were required to use a school map to find their assigned classrooms, be on time, and behave in a mature manner. The readers selected their favorite Dr Seuss book and read in teams of two. The volunteers served over 29 classrooms ranging from pre-school to 2nd grade both special and general education. The Lincoln Elementary School staff was quite impressed with the service provided by our own students.
The Dairy Council of California put on an assembly for the students at Lincoln. The Dairy Council brought a 5 year old cow named "Milky Way" and a 4 month old calf named "Oreo".
The students learned what a dairy cow eats & drinks and how milk gets from the cow to the milk containers in their homes.
This assembly integrates Language Arts, Math and Science, while teaching about agriculture’s contribution to our food supply and providing students with knowledge of healthy food and activity choices.
